This course aims to develop knowledge and practical skills for analyzing and managing information systems in the energy sector, highlighting key technologies.

Description

The course aims at giving the students the necessary knowledge, understanding and operation with different concepts, theories and practices specific to the organization’s energy management in concrete business situations.

Moreover, the course aims to guide the students through the process of establishing an effective Energy Management System (EnMS) for an organization, as well as managing and continuously improving the organization’s energy performance.

The course covers the meaning and benefits of an EnMS based on the international Standard “ISO 50001: Energy management systems – Requirements with guidance for use”.

The students will learn how to establish an EnMS that supports organizations to use energy as efficiently as possible, while still helping to conserve (energy) resources and deal with climate change. Also, the students will learn how organizations establish processes necessary to improve their own energy performance.

Upon completion of this course, students will be able to:

  • Define a clear and adequate internal organization with clear division of roles and responsibilities with regard to the organization’s energy management;
  • Have a full awareness of the organization’s energy uses and of the improvement opportunities which could be realistically achieved;
  • Understand how to reduce consumption and energy costs with a view to a more rational management of resources, and in compliance with current legislative requirements.
