Today’s business environment is highly globalized and influenced by geopolitical instability, increasing risks, climate-related challenges, and unpredictable financial structures. Leading in such a context requires a global outlook, the ability to manage across cultures and uncertainties, and the capacity to make well-informed decisions.

The intersection of local and global dynamics is often present, making it essential for businesses and new initiatives to be thoroughly risk managed.

The intensive Shipping & Port Leadership Summer School (SPL Summer School) connects participants with experienced professionals and academics to explore and apply best practices in the field. The program focuses on how to use business theories and models in a real-life business case context.

It also addresses the concept of executive and international executive presence – what it means and how it can be practiced in real-world situations.

The SPL Summer School is specifically designed for professionals in the shipping and port sectors who want to gain a deeper understanding of the strategic opportunities offered by the Port of Constanța and the Danube River in the broader global economic context.

The program will include 2–3 live-case, community-based business cases sourced through a call for contributions. Preparatory materials will be shared in advance, including selected articles, TED Talks, and relevant theoretical readings.

Participants will apply theoretical models and course insights in a venture funding-style setting.

The program concludes with a pitch session, where participants present their strategic approach – based on business case work and theory application – to a panel acting as potential investors and stakeholders.

Day 1Introduction & Strategy Foundations

Introduction to business cases and the first basic strategy module. Participants meet in business case groups.

Day 2: Strategic Concepts & Port Economics

Lecture on strategic models, port-specific economics, and trading principles.

Day 3: Case Development & Consultation

Group work and consultation on selected strategy models to be used in the case study.

Day 4: Executive Presence & Pitch Preparation

Course on executive presence – what it means and the basic principles of delivering a business case pitch. Continued interactive lecturing and group work.

Day 5: Case Study: The Danube & Port of Constanța

Focus on the Danube River’s role as critical infrastructure in connection with the Port of Constanța, highlighting how it supports the port’s transformation into one of Europe’s fastest-growing and globally impactful trade hubs.

Upon successful completion of the Shipping & Port Leadership Summer School, participants will gain a solid understanding of how to work with real-life business cases, apply theoretical frameworks, and use analytical principles in practice. The program offers an initial introduction to a practical executive toolbox designed to support career advancement in the business and maritime sectors.

Graduates will receive a Certificate of Completion jointly issued by Bucharest Business School – the only AMBA-accredited business school in Romania – and The Blue MBA Association from Copenhagen Business School (CBS).
