Lucian Poenaru is the founder and Managing Partner of Poenaru Legal, a boutique law firm launched in Bucharest in 2025, with a focus on intellectual property and M&A. He started the firm with a team he had worked with for over a decade and an existing portfolio of active clients. He wanted to offer growing companies, entrepreneurs preparing their first major transaction, and established businesses a direct relationship with a senior lawyer.

He began his career at Stoica & Asociații in 2008 as a Junior Lawyer, became an Associate in 2010 and a Senior Associate in 2012. From 2012 to 2025 he was a Partner at Rizoiu & Poenaru, which split in 2025 into Rizoiu & Asociații and Poenaru Legal.

He promotes “legal entrepreneurship”: an approach in which the lawyer understands the client’s industry and long-term interests and acts as a partner in building the business, not only as a problem-solver in a crisis. His long-standing clients include the service center of one of Europe’s largest financial groups and a major provider of medical imaging and oncology treatment. For the latter, he has managed the expansion of its network through private clinic acquisitions for more than ten years.
