Dumitru Roman is currently Senior Research Scientist at SINTEF AS, Norway, and Full Professor (Adjunct) at UiT The Arctic University of Norway. His research focuses on data management, data science, and AI, with an emphasis on innovation projects enabling data-driven business products and services, including data pipelines, knowledge graphs, data quality and enrichment, trusted data exchange, and data/AI regulatory compliance.

He received his Diploma Engineer degree in Computer Science from the Technical University of Cluj-Napoca, Romania, and his PhD in Computer Science (with highest distinction) from the University of Innsbruck, Austria. Dr. Roman has more than two decades of experience initiating, acquiring, leading, and carrying out research-intensive projects, having participated in dozens of large international (mostly EU-funded) projects in collaboration with numerous private companies, public sector organizations, universities, and research institutes. He has coordinated several large EU projects, including DataPACT, enRichMyData, and DataCloud, has co-authored over 100 publications, and has held academic positions at OsloMet, University of Oslo, and Bucharest University of Economic Studies. He also serves as an expert evaluator for the European Commission and national research funding agencies.
