Historically, an MBA was a ticket to the world of high-stakes analysis. We taught our students to build complex financial models, conduct exhaustive market research studies, and draft intricate strategic plans for a business. These were the “hard skills” that commanded premium salaries in consulting and finance and Bucharest Business School was no exception to that. However, in the age of AI, these skills have become commoditized. A Large Language Model (LLM) can perform a SWOT analysis, a discounted cash flow (DCF) model, or a competitive landscape map in seconds and with a high degree of accuracy. If we, as a business school, continue to evaluate our students on their ability to perform these tasks manually, we are training them for a world that no longer exists.
This is why we at Bucharest Business School are shifting our focus from Answer Generation to Question Architecture. We believe the value of a manager today lies not in having the answer, but in the “Prompt Engineering of Strategy.” Our students must learn to interrogate AI, to understand its biases, and to synthesize its outputs into a coherent vision. We are moving from teaching “How to calculate” to “What to ask,” and “Why it matters.”
As AI takes over the cognitive heavy lifting of data processing and logical deduction, the relative value of uniquely human traits skyrockets. I call this the “Human Premium.” In an era where any intern can generate a perfect executive summary using AI, the ability to inspire a demoralized team, to navigate a complex boardroom negotiation, or to build a culture of psychological safety becomes the ultimate competitive advantage.
We are redesigning our didactic approach in all 6 MBA programs, in order to prioritize:
- Hyper-Empathy: Understanding the unstated emotional needs of stakeholders.
- Ethical Intuition: Making decisions in the “gray zones” where data is insufficient or biased.
- Resilient Storytelling: The ability to craft a narrative that gives meaning to an organization’s journey—something an LLM can simulate but never truly “feel.”
The Bucharest Business School of tomorrow will be a humanity lab. We are increasing the weight of peer-to-peer learning, simulation-based roleplaying, and leadership talks. We want our graduates to be the ones who can look a client in the eye and build trust—a feat no algorithm, no matter how advanced, can replicate. In recent years we have taken steps to integrate AI into the core of our business operations, not just in our teaching. In doing this, a new shadow emerged: the crisis of AI governance. When an AI-driven initial candidate assessment inadvertently discriminates against a demographic, who is responsible?
Our role as a responsible Business School is to train AI Architects, not just AI users. This involves a deep dive into AI Governance—a topic we are now weaving into every module, backed by extensive research our faculty is conducting on this topic, together with our research partners in the business world. We must teach our students to navigate the EU AI Act and similar global frameworks. They need to understand the “Ethical Debt” incurred when using black-box algorithms. At BBS, we will be challenging our students to design “Human-in-the-Loop” systems where AI augments human judgment without replacing human responsibility. Leadership in 2026 is about setting the guardrails for the machines we delegate power to.
If a student can use AI to write an essay, then the essay is dead as an assessment tool. As Vice Dean, my most immediate challenge is the total overhaul of how we teach and grade. The traditional lecture is being replaced by the hybrid classroom. Students can consume AI-generated foundational content before class. In the classroom, the professor must act as a high-level moderator. As an example, we might ask a custom-tuned AI to represent a hostile competitor or a skeptical regulator, forcing students to defend their positions in real-time.
We strongly believe that the shelf-life of a technical skill is now measured in months. Consequently, the business school can no longer be a “one-stop-shop” where you get a degree at 30 and coast until 60. We are moving toward a continuous, subscription based education model. BBS is looking to become a lifelong partner, offering micro-credentials in relevant topics that alumni can stack as the technology evolves. This is called Mentora, and, as we pilot it in the coming months we are building our capacity to stay connected with the world around us to help us understand what topics are relevant tomorrow so we can offer it today.
Operating in Bucharest gives us a unique perspective. Romania has a brilliant technical heritage but has often struggled with the commercialization gap. Our mission at BBS is to bridge this gap. By infusing AI into our business education, we are ensuring that Romanian companies don’t just provide outsourced labor to the West, but lead the way in AI-driven business model innovation. We are teaching our entrepreneurs to use AI to scale faster, to reach global markets from a desk in Bucharest, and to compete on intelligence rather than just cost.
Paradoxically, the most advanced technology in history is pushing us back toward the oldest ideals of education. In the Age of AI, the specialist is vulnerable, but the Generalist—the individual who understands psychology, history, ethics, and technology—is king. Generative AI is the great equalizer in education. It raises the floor for everyone, making the average analyst or even manager much better. But it also raises the ceiling for the outstanding ones. To reach that ceiling, one needs more than a degree; one needs a transformation of mindset.
